Rabat, 18 December 2025
In implementation of the High Royal Directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, and in reflection of the unwavering care He extends to citizens in all circumstances—particularly in standing alongside those affected by hardship—the Government has launched a comprehensive rehabilitation program for areas impacted by the exceptional floods that struck the city of Safi following unprecedented rainfall on Sunday, 14 December 2025.
The severe weather event, marked by unusually intense and sustained precipitation, resulted in human losses and significant material damage, affecting several neighborhoods as well as essential infrastructure, facilities, and public services. In response, public authorities have moved swiftly to deploy an integrated and structured intervention, guided by Royal orientations emphasizing solidarity, protection of citizens, and the provision of all necessary forms of assistance to those affected.
According to a statement issued by the Head of Government, the program is founded on a holistic and coordinated approach designed to ensure rapid, effective, and needs-based intervention. It encompasses a set of urgent operational measures aimed at mitigating the immediate consequences of the disaster while laying the groundwork for sustainable recovery.
These measures include the provision of emergency financial assistance to families who have lost personal belongings, the rehabilitation and repair of damaged housing through essential restoration works, and the reconstruction, refurbishment, and functional redesign of affected commercial premises, accompanied by tailored support for business owners. All actions are fully aligned with the High Royal Directives calling for the preservation of citizens’ dignity, the guarantee of decent living conditions, and the strengthening of community resilience.
In accordance with the instructions of His Majesty the King, all necessary human, technical, and logistical resources have been mobilized, alongside reinforced coordination among the various stakeholders concerned. Local authorities have been tasked with initiating the immediate implementation of the program’s components to ensure timely, effective, and phased execution, responsive to the urgent needs of the affected population.
The launch of this program once again illustrates the Government’s commitment, sense of responsibility, and readiness to address the impacts of natural disasters, while reflecting the special attention accorded by His Majesty the King—may God preserve Him—to citizens, his closeness to their concerns, and his determination to respond to their fundamental needs within a comprehensive solidarity-based framework aimed at sustainable rehabilitation and enhanced prevention of future risks.
