Amir Ohana sets the record straight: “Morocco is a red line”

The Speaker of the Knesset reaffirms the strength of the Moroccan-Israeli partnership following controversial remarks that were immediately sanctioned at the highest level of the Israeli state.

Reacting to statements made by an advisor who was swiftly dismissed from his position, Amir Ohana made it clear that these remarks in no way reflect the stance of the Israeli Prime Minister. The Speaker of the Knesset stressed that the latter holds “deep and constant regard” for the Kingdom of Morocco — its King, government, and people — as reported by the highly influential Israeli media outlet Maariv on its website.

Amir Ohana also emphasized the depth of the historical and spiritual ties linking Israel to the Moroccan Jewish community, which he described as a true living bridge between the two nations.

In a strong move reflecting the determination to preserve this strategic relationship, Israeli authorities confirmed that the advisor in question is no longer part of the government apparatus. He was dismissed immediately following his statements, which were deemed contrary to the standards of diplomatic conduct expected toward a key partner such as Morocco.

This swift reaction underscores the unique place Morocco holds within the Israeli political sphere, where any damage to the bilateral relationship is clearly unacceptable.

“The emphasis placed by Amir Ohana on his Moroccan origins in this context is far from incidental. It conveys a message of loyalty, assuring the Moroccan side that Israeli institutions — both legislative and executive — stand firm against any attempt to undermine the sacred nature of this relationship,” concludes Maariv.
