Security Partnership. Morocco and Brazil Give New Momentum to Their Bilateral Cooperation

The Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, Abdellatif Hammouchi, received in Rabat the Ambassador of Brazil to Morocco, Alexander Guido Lopes Parola, to consolidate a security cooperation that is set to gain further momentum.

Abdellatif Hammouchi, Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, received, on Thursday, June 11, in his office at the new headquarters of the General Directorate of National Security in Rabat, the Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil accredited to Morocco, Alexander Guido Lopes Parola.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both parties to review the levels and forms of cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Federative Republic of Brazil in security areas of common interest. Discussions focused in particular on border security, counterterrorism and the fight against transnational crime, all of which are priorities requiring close coordination between partner services.

The two officials also examined ways to give new momentum to bilateral cooperation through a shared strategic vision. This vision aims to strengthen cooperation mechanisms in police training, the fight against irregular migration networks, as well as the monitoring and neutralization of the movements of terrorist organizations in the Sahel and Sahara region.

This meeting falls within the continued implementation of the memorandum of understanding signed in 2024 between the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance and the Director General of the Brazilian Federal Police. This cooperation framework aims to structure and develop joint working channels between Moroccan and Brazilian security services, particularly in the fight against transnational organized crime, illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, terrorism, human trafficking, migrant smuggling, illicit trafficking in firearms, ammunition, explosives and their components, money laundering, document forgery and cybercrime.

Beyond its bilateral dimension, this meeting illustrates the commitment of the DGSN-DGST pole to activating security partnerships with friendly and brotherly countries. It confirms an approach based on sustainability, anticipation and operational exchange, in order to address emerging criminal and terrorist threats. It also underscores the importance of specialized training and expertise sharing as essential levers for more effective collective security.
